How to calculate the size of a pond.

To calculate the size or volume of a pond, you can use the following formula:

Length x Width x Average Depth

Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Measure the Length: Measure the longest part of the pond in meters or feet.

  2. Measure the Width: Measure the widest part of the pond in the same unit as the length.

  3. Determine the Average Depth: To find the average depth, measure the depth at several different points in the pond, then calculate the average. Make sure to use the same unit (meters or feet).

  4. Multiply Together: Add the length, Width, and average depth to get the pond's volume.

    Volume=Length×Width×Average Depth

  5. Convert to Litres or Gallons (if needed): If you want to convert the volume to litres (for metric) or gallons (for imperial), use these conversions:

    • For cubic meters to litres, multiply by 1,000. (1 cubic meter = 1,000 liters)
    • For cubic feet to gallons, multiply by 7.48. (1 cubic foot = 7.48 gallons)

This formula assumes a relatively regular shape. If your pond is irregular, you may need to divide it into sections, calculate the volume for each section, and then add them together for the total volume.

How often should I treat this beneficial bacteria product?

For the effective use of the beneficial bacteria product in your pond, follow this treatment schedule:

  1. New Ponds and Spring Start-ups:

    • Treat the pond with the beneficial bacteria twice weekly for the first two weeks. This initial frequent treatment helps establish a healthy bacterial balance in new ponds or ponds starting up in the spring.
  2. Regular Maintenance:

    • After the initial two weeks, treat the pond once a week. This regular maintenance dose helps sustain a balanced ecosystem, ensuring clear and healthy water conditions in your pond.

Adhering to this schedule ensures that your pond remains in optimal health, with clear water and a well-maintained nitrogen cycle.

How do we treat this beneficial bacteria pond product?

To effectively treat your pond with the beneficial bacteria product, follow these steps:

  1. Measure the Correct Amount: Use the provided measuring scoop to take the appropriate amount of the beneficial bacteria product as per the instructions on the package or as required for your pond size.

  2. Identify High Circulation Areas: Find areas in your pond with good water movement or circulation. These areas are typically near pumps, filters, or waterfalls.

  3. Sprinkle the Product: Evenly sprinkle the dry beneficial bacteria powder over these high-circulation areas. The moving water will help disperse the bacteria more effectively throughout the pond.

  4. Be Mindful of Wind: If it's windy, be cautious when sprinkling the bacteria to prevent it from blowing away. Try to choose a calm day or a time when the wind is minimal for the treatment.

  5. Regular Application: Repeat this process per the recommended treatment schedule, usually once a week after the initial intensive treatment period for new ponds or spring start-ups.

Following these steps ensures that the beneficial bacteria are evenly distributed in the pond, promoting a healthy and balanced aquatic ecosystem.

Please note,

Most effective in water temperatures above 10° C; for colder temperatures, use the cold water beneficial bacteria.

How Much To Treat?

To determine how much of the beneficial bacteria product to use for your pond, follow these guidelines based on the size of the product you have:

  1. For the 250g, 500g and 3.2Kg Size:

    • Use one scoop (equivalent to 1 teaspoon) of the product to treat 4,914 litres of pond water.
  2. For the 4Kg Professional Grade Size:

    • Use one large scoop (equivalent to 1 cup) to treat 181,440 litres of pond or lake water.

Always ensure you're using the correct scoop size for your product. Adjust the amount of product used according to your pond's volume. For example, if your pond holds 10,000 litres of water and you have the 500g product, you would use slightly more than two teaspoons of the product for each treatment.

These guidelines help maintain an optimal balance in your pond, ensuring clear water and a healthy ecosystem.
